Episode 000 - An Introduction

Welcome to the History of Islam Podcast!
PLEASE NOTE: Due a technical issue this episode requires headphones to be listened to.
This episode is an introduction to the series where I cover a few points such as course of action.

  1. Hi, thanks for doing this, very excited! Though, if I didn't miss something, you never really introduced *yourself*. There is nothing about who you are or what your credentials are, neither in this episode nor anywhere on the blog (the only thing I can deduce, from the cover art, is that your name is "Elias Belhaddad"). Do you wanna remedy that?

As for opening up a Twitter or Reddit account... It really depends on your audience, I guess. Blogs are fine for dumping extra information, but they're pretty much dead, as far as I'm aware, as discussion platforms. Twitter works great as an announcement and updates machine, but I personally find Reddit's mechanisms best to further the conversation.

    1. Thanks for your message, I've addressed the issue of a personal introduction in the footnotes segment of episode 1.

The blogger comment section isn't that good for conversations, can you please contact me using the contact page. If you have any other queries or suggestions, I would love to discuss them there.

  2. I only recently started listening to history podcasts, and quickly worked through both The History of Rome and The History of Byzantium (at least to its current point). When the latter got to the point of the interactions with Islam, I thought to myself 'a podcast about the history of Islam would be really great'. So, when I saw you mention just that on AskHistorian's Friday Free-for-All a few weeks ago, I was very excited.

I enjoyed your intro here, and I'm sorry about your cold. To answer some of the questions you asked: the audio quality seemed good so far. I was listening at my desk at work, though, while I normally listen to podcast while commuting, so I might have more to say in the future once I've listened in that environment. I like the idea of 'footnotes', so I would encourage including those when they make sense.

Regarding twitter, I stopped using it long ago, so your creating an account would not be relevant to me. I can't speak to others, or course.

Thank you for doing this project. I'm excited to hear more!

  4. Hi i started to listen to this a couple of days ago and got part way through the intro. Did something change because the audio is impossible to hear today. The intro is fine but then it becomes muffled and very quiet. The other podcasts i quickly checked seem fine.

    1. Are you using speakers?
There was a technical problem with the encoding of this particular file, the quick solution is to listen to it using earphones. Let me know if that solves the issue.
